  1. Backing up your WordPress files have never been easier with BackWPup. To start backing up your files, you just have to create a new job by clicking ‘Add a new job’ and specify the destination for your files. One thing to like about BackWPup is its several storage options including Dropbox, S3 Service, and email.

If you choose to store your backup files in Dropbox, you will be asked of authentication code for either a restricted or full access of your Dropbox account. For storing files on Amazon S3, you will have to provide your authentication code and select the desired destination folder.

A backup job can be done manually, with the link, or with WordPress cron. By choosing to start the job with WordPress cron, you can schedule the backup monthly, weekly, daily, or hourly.

BackWPup allows you to choose which files to backup. Under the ‘Files’ tab, you can opt to exclude certain root folders, plugins, and themes. This is a good feature especially if you’re only after backing up specific themes or plugins of your site.

  2. BackUpWordPress makes doing a compete backup of my WordPress site quick and easy. Before, I used to have to go in and deal with phpMyAdmin in order to produce a backup of my posts and the WordPress template. This is something that I really don’t recommend if you are not used to working with databases, as it is fairly easy to mess up your site.

With some other plugins for backing up WordPress, I was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to restore the settings properly in case of an emergency. This did happen once when I was using another backup plugin.

However, with this plugin, I was able to restore my site quickly when a database corruption error occurred.

BackUpWordPress has many features. But I think one of the strongest features is the ability to choose the location where you want to back up your content. Now, my backups happen automatically and are stored to the cloud. I no longer have to worry about reminding myself to make a backup every now and then.

The only thing that I would recommend to users of this plugin is that you test a backup first before committing to it. Some plugins may not allow for backup or you may find that your settings don’t look quite the same when you try to restore your site. I think that this is a good practice just to make sure that you can really get up and running again quickly in the event of a problem.

Another downside is the you have to upgrade to the premium version of the plugin in order to backup your site to cloud services. So, just be aware of these things before you make a decision as to which backup plugin is best for your WordPress site.
