  1. Go use Your updraftplus account now there database is down and informed Simbahosting about the problem but no answer… :((

It is the best – easiest most valuable service but it has to work All the time not just now and then.

  3. I had been using the free version of Updraft for a while to do backups, but wanted a way of moving a site to another URL easily. I could have done it myself with a bit of manual effort, but I discovered that there’s a version of Updraft with a migration tool that does the database find/replace for you. Although I had always been happy with the backup side of Updraft, I wasn’t convinced the migration bit would work, but I stumped up the cash (which for this add-on means I can use it on as many sites as needed and 12 months of updates and support).

I gave it a go – Backed up to Google Drive from one site and then installed it on another site and it asked me during the restore if I was restoring to a different site, so I put the url in and it did the magic and it all just worked perfectly on the new site. Pretty cool.

The next time I tried was on an older server with on old version of php5.2.10 and the migrator plugin didn’t work. I created an admin user for the updraft guys and they took a look and tweaked the plugin to work properly and will roll it out in the next release for everyone else. Very impressive and swift enough for my needs. Email correspondence was polite and professional.

    1. Hi Charles,

      Thank you for your review.
Our Migrator is one of our most popular add ons and just like our backup plugin we are continuously improving it. It also comes included with all the Premium packages along with access to all our other add-ons and support for a year.
We have a dedicate team that consistently aims for quick, professional support and our always prepared to spend whatever time is needed to resolve queries – it’s great to hear this is effective and the feedback really helps us to keep the plugin at it’s best.

      Thanks

  4. No Lifetime Updates will leave you without service, and unworkable….

    1. Hi Mike,

12 months of access to updates is normal with WordPress paid plugins (it’s the same with BackupBuddy), and clearly stated several times on the shop + product page, so it seems a bit unreasonable to mark this down as a negative.

      Best wishes,
      David

      1. I just found the same thing and didn’t realize my plugin would stop working all together. I only used it once and thought I could use it again now (less than a month after support expired). This is VERY UNreasonable to purchase and then not be able to use it ever again after your year is up. I can do it manually from now on – it’s really not that much more work.

        1. Hi Robin,

That’s not the case – there’s no code or mechanism in UD to stop the plugin working after 12 months; it doesn’t make any sorts of checks before starting backups. The “12 months” is only access to support and updated versions. So, there must have been something else going on on yours, unfortunately, which caused the problem.

          David

  5. Seems to work as a backup solution. Restores/migrations are usually sucessful although occasionally I have a few errors reported and I’m not sure whether these might cause problems. I’m sure if I’d asked for technical support they would have enlightened me and helped. It save you a lot of time in the long-run.

  6. This is an outstanding product with the best support on the web! Updrafts support has been absolutely incredible and not only do they deal with the rarest of issues with the plugin, they even sorted out issues with my server, host restrictions, AWS and many other areas and got us working in no time.

We depend on Updrafts Plus and now use it as a must on every client site we build (and our won sites).

This has to be one of the best value pieces of software out there.

  7. This is WAY more than a backup plugin.

My site has three subdomains built out with courseware and memberships etc…

The site is big in total and I had to migrate it. It failed 3 times using CPanel migration tools. No problem at all using Updraft Plus. It did it WAY faster than those failed attempts using the transfer tools. This was especially true because my backups were coming from Amazon s3.

Great plugin, you’ll never use another backup plugin again.

  8. Our company has been using this plugin as our backup solution and we absolutely love it. We’ve tried all sorts of different backup solutions and each of them had some sort of issue that made it unusable for us. None of them performed exactly the way we needed until we found Updraft, and we’re so glad we did. It was better than we could have hoped for, and now we can’t imagine using anything else!

The settings were simple and quick to configure, the interface wasn’t a mess to look at like many other backup plugins, and the support for remote storage was fantastic.

  9. I am very happy with this plugin. It is very user friendly, which is especially helpful for WordPress beginners like me. It automatically backs up my website daily to my Dropbox.

It was very easy to configure the settings. You choose how often you want it to do a backup. There are options for every 4, 8, or 12 hours, or daily, weekly, fortnightly, or monthly. You can choose to backup files and the database on different intervals. Also you can do a manual backup at any time, which is nice if you’re about to update something and want to make sure you’re prepared in case something crazy happens.

One option you don’t have, by the way, is to choose the time of your backup. That is not a problem for me, but if you want that option you would need the premium version.

It is simple to indicate which files to include in backups. You just check the boxes of the files you’d like to include. It won’t encrypt the backups, but I don’t mind that.

Also on the settings page you choose whether or not you’d like to have a report sent to your email after backups. I like having this confirmation that it did perform the backup. It’s very simple to choose where to have your backups stored. There is a dropdown menu and you choose the option you’re using. For a fee you can use an add-on to have it sent to more than one location. That seems like a nice option if you feel like you need it.

Thankfully I’ve never had to actually use the restore feature, but it looks like if I do, it will be easy to use.

Also, when you first view the plugin in WordPress, it shows the current status tab. In this view you can see when your next backup will be and when your last one was. Conveniently it also shows the current time so you can easily tell how long ago it was backed up. Directly below the time of the last backup is a link to download the last backup files if you need to.

This plugin gives me just what I need. Set up was simple, and I don’t have to worry about whether my site is backed up. There is also a long list of FAQ’s, but I haven’t had to use them. I highly recommend this plugin.

  10. 3 stars because while it is good backup &schedule uses more than 300mb RAM for just 400 posts site. and hungs the system .it is not for starters
    ps:iahave use passive ftp mode.

  11. How hard can it be to make a backup plugin? I have no idea, but I’m pretty sure they all do the same thing. Its not that hard to do it manually, but really I’d like to set and forget, or if must be – press a button.
Seems to me if you are going to back up, you want similar ease to do a restore.
Why don’t all the backup plugins have a restore. Beats me, but without it I’m not going to use the plugin!
Updraft plus does database backups, file backups and restores. The interface is pretty good, and it backs up to Dropbox. (I tried the Google drive setup but it was too complicated for me or I was just stoopid that afternoon) – anyway it failed. There are lots more (pretty complicated backup locations on offer too). Dropbox on the other hand was dead easy – and isn’t that the entire point of a plugin?
Now I’ve got lots of sites backing up easily, on a schedule. (that would be about 100).
There does seems to be a glitch with the Backup now button (the overlay doesn’t seem to show the backup modal sometimes). I can live with that.
Of the backups I’ve used I like this one best.
(Why I can’t trust my hosts auto backup is another story!)

    1. Hi

Thanks for your post – this is Joe from UpdraftPlus.

In answer to your question, it’s actually easy to make a backup plugin that works 85% of the time – that’s why there’s so many backup plugin options out there.

But it’s hard to develop one that works 99.999% of the time. That’s why UpdraftPlus is the world’s most popular backup plugin. Some other plugins don’t have a restore function, and many of them fail under specific circumstances. If you have sensitive data on your website database, it’s also important you get one that has security features to stop your backup getting hacked.

We have three full time developers working on improving UDP and supporting our users to give our 600k active website users peace of mind.
