So I finally got some time away from developing and testing Wpscoop to write a fresh blog post that will hopefully outline some of the work I have been doing and keep you informed about the direction of the site. Most of the work and testing carried out on the site since our v2.0 relaunch has been very much behind the scenes concentrating initially on tuning performance, enhancing stability and making sure WPscoop’s existing features all work the way they are intended. So far I am delighted with the way the site is performing at the moment with very little errors having cropped up, so whats in store for the future of WPscoop? read on to find out.
Around two weeks ago we launched the new version of WPscoop to you all and the response so far to the site and it’s new design have been great. Behind the scenes i have been working hard on some more improvements that i will hopefully be able to start rolling out early next week all going well during testing.
User Profile Pages
The first improvement i have been working on are User Profile pages, at the moment the layout is very basic and not very functional. This improvement is taking a little longer than i first anticipated due mainly to me not liking any of my Photoshop mock-ups as yet. I plan to work on some more mock-ups over the weekend and hopefully have a design that i can code for the site next week.
The profiles are something i am working on so just wanted to let you all know it will happen, eventually ![]()
Social Profile Logins
I want the experience of using WPscoop to be as easy as possible and this includes sharing information with and logging into WPscoop with you existing Social Profiles. WPscoop will soon allow you to connect and share information with the services listed below.
- Facebook Connect
- MySpace ID
- OpenID
Some more features explained
- Authenticate users via Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and other OpenID providers.
- Members can invite friends to WPscoop, or to share WPscoop content on external social network services.
- Members can send status updates, tweets and newsfeed events to social networks of their actions on WPscoop.
- Integrate user profile and social graph data into WPscoop.
Wpscoop Dynamic Vote Button Wordpress Plugin
The new WPscoop dynamic vote button wordpress plugin will be more configurable than the existing plugin along with having a new admin options page. This plugin will allow wordpress users to display a button showing the number of votes their story has received if it’s been submitted to WPscoop. If the article has not been submitted to WPscoop the button show a submission button instead of votes.
The cool feature of our external button is that if a member is logged into WPscoop and visits you sites they can vote directly from you web page without actually visiting WPscoop. More info and details on this plugin as we develop and test it.
WPscoop External Stories Widget Wordpress Plugin
At the moment if you want to display the top stories at WPscoop with votes on your blog we only have a javascript snippet that can be found here. The current javascript snippet is configurable and works well but for wordpress users we wanted to make it into a configurable plugin. Again this plugin will have an admin options panel that you can configure all the features of how you wish stories from WPscoop to be displayed.
Wpscoop Static Website Submit Button And Icons
We will be providing the code snippets that will allow any website to easily have a submit link to WPscoop on their webpages. These links can either be text or images whatever you prefer and we will be releasing some image icons to get you started with.
Hopefully you like some of the features i have outlined above and i will go into each in detail when they launch. Any comments, questions or suggestions are always welcomed.
Finally thanks to everyone who visits the site daily and interacts, reads our rss, has written an article featuring WPscoop, retweets great wordpress articles and so much more, it’s greatly appreciated.

These are exciting innovations, and I was particularly interested to see mention of enabling social profile logins from multiple identity providers. Has Wpscoop thought about using RPX http://rpxnow.com RPX provides a simple, easy to deploy API that allows visitors to sign into websites using an existing account from Facebook, Twitter, Google, Yahoo, MySpace, AOL, Windows Live ID, and all other OpenID providers. RPX would allow Wpscoop to benefit from increased registrations and access to a rich set of user profile data from the providers.
Additionally, RPX allows you to publish user activity back to social networks like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, and offers users the ability to import their address books and contacts from Google, Windows Live ID, Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.
RPX is free to use, and Wpscoop could get started from here: http://rpxnow.com/get.
Hi Michael looks like an interesting application, will do some more research on it.
Thanks for pointing it out to me much appreciated.
